My hubby and I went to Bangkok for a short vacation and they have a lot of Buddhist churches. Our tour guide could speak English and she met us at the airport. We were surprised that we were not the only ones that she was meeting that day, there were two more couples aside from us and we all piled up in a van. In spite of the air con inside the van, it was so hot that I almost passed out but they made room for me so I was able to lay down at the back. It was a good thing that our tour guide had some medication with her for dizziness and I took that with a bottle of water. I'd never forget the heat in that place because we were literally drenched with our own sweat. We stopped by in a hotel and I thought that we were going to go in but we were just dropping off one of the couples that were with us. Then we proceeded to another hotel where we were billeted and I just dropped on the bed and slept, too exhausted to move. Our hotel was alright, quite good sized actually and it was very comfortable and clean. We could see the night market two floors below us from our bedroom window. After we rested for awhile, we took a shower and went out around evening time thinking that it would be cooler by then. Well, we were wrong because it was still hot even during the night.
Walking around the place was just like walking in the sidewalks of Manila. Too crowded and dirty with too many vendors blocking the sidewalks. One thing that I did not appreciate there were the tuktuk drivers. We chose not to take one of them but to walk instead so we could appreciate the place but they would follow us around. There was even a time when they almost run us over. There are lots of shops open even during the night and we enjoyed walking around including the big malls. Food was okay but when we ordered some fried chicken in one of the restaurants, it was too spicy hot that we were not able to eat it and we ended up ordering another food. They like spicy foods but it so happened that we're not into too much spicy foods.
Our tour guide took us to several Buddhist temples and there were so many of them that after awhile, they all looked the same to us. It was an enjoyable and interesting trip but I just could not take in the heat.
